this weekend was extra sweet. we love the day of love around here. ben always gets into the romance and fun of it all and ever since elinor entered the scene, he has had two valentines to spoil. the man knows what he’s doing. we don’t go over the top. we don’t go into it with expectations of extravagance and dripping candles…for us, valentine’s day has always been about thoughtful gestures and simple pleasures. a cute card. definitely some chocolates or treats. a movie night at home with popcorn and bubbly. and perhaps a gift or two. sometimes we give each other practical items that the other person needs but hasn’t purchased. sometimes we give relationship mementos, trinkets from memory lane. and sometimes it is a completely unexpected statement piece.
this year, with valentine’s day falling on a sunday of a long weekend, it made for an extra lengthy celebration. we enjoyed plenty of playtime with our little loves. we sweat FAR TOO MUCH for february (come on arizona, 90 degrees? give us a break.) i got in some serious mileage. we juiced. we feasted like parisians. we relaxed at home. we read. we enjoyed extra cups of coffee. we listened to all the chill vinyl. we got in some backyard time (and while ben was collecting the last of our lemons, he plucked a teeny lemon blossom for me. that is my very favorite smell. okay, spring. i guess i am ready for you. but please be kind. you aren’t starting off on the right foot…). we spent time with our church family and nuclear family. we ate ALL THE COOKIES.
and there is nothing better than a holiday monday, right? they are the best. it makes our sabbath time that much sweeter because we have a bonus day on the way. after all the celebrating and relaxing and family time, we decided that a legit date was in order to cap off the weekend of love. and so, we dropped off the little ones and enjoyed an afternoon and evening of just-us-ness.
after perusing our menu options, we decided on “our place” citizen public house. they had us at duck burger. we snagged a primo table and enjoyed a perfect happy hour (or two) including a flute of champagne (or two). appetizers and a burger and some dessert. and after we were full and feeling fine, we did some wandering and window shopping and dreaming and chatting and planning. i love dates with my man. i need dates with my man. here’s hoping that 2016 holds many more nights out on the town and weekend jaunts and adventures.
